A Well Rounded Program...
At The Martial Arts Center, our Adult Program is a blend of Okinawan Shuri-Ryu Karate and Shintoyoshin-Kai Jiu-Jitsu. We believe that cross training and versatility is essential in the Martial Arts.
About Our Classes...
- The beginning age for students in our adult karate program is 13 years old.
- All classes are 1 hour and 15 minutes in length.
- We offer separate classes for Basic and Advance level students.
- Every class consists of stretching and warm-ups followed by a callisthenic & plyometric exercise routine. Once warmed up, the class lesson is presented and taught.
- You do not have to have any special skills to excel in our program. The only you must have is a willingness to learn, a good attitude with fellow students & instructors and a sense of fun.
- In every class, it is our objective for you to attain 3 things: an education ~ learn something new, a revelation ~ a better understanding of previously taught material, and a Great Workout.
Martial Arts integrate three aspects...
- THE PHYSICAL ~ Balance, coordination, flexibility, agility, strengthening, breathing and self-defense.
- THE MENTAL ~ Education in nutrition, anatomy/physiology and psychology.
- THE SPIRITUAL ~ One's ability to give 100% to a cause, the ability to "never give up" and the ability to learn and accept the strengths and weaknesses of oneself.
Our Pledge To You...
- We will help you get into great physical condition.
- We will bring out the best in you mentally and physically.
- You will learn to defend yourself.
- You will learn how to apply the strategies of the martial arts in all areas of your life.
Questions You May Have...
I've never studied martial arts. What is a typical class like?
Each class starts with a yoga based stretch followed by a warm up routine consisting of callisthenic and plyometric exercises. From there, each class is a little different as we might emphasize kicking in one class, striking in another, formal exercises, falling methods or trapping and grappling. During class we will push you aerobically and anaerobically, while emphasizing "the ability to concentrate" on the task at hand.
What kind of people take Karate or Jiu-Jitsu?
There is no specific "type" of person that studies martial arts. People of all ages, sizes and builds are encouraged to begin training. You do not have to be in good shape before you can start either. The desire to get in shape, to protect yourself, to learn patience, peace and perseverance is all one needs to start.
What do you mean by "apply the strategies of the martial arts to all areas of my life?"
In our school, we learn about the principles of confidence, humility, ego and how they relate to one another. Confidence with humility will help one excel in all areas of life, while an elevated ego can hinder progress in those areas. Join us and experience the Martial Arts for yourself.
